About
400 meters deep oil and gas
trap was discovered in Hamrin anticline by IPC in 1961 via well Hamrin-1
(Hr-1). The field remained un-appraised until INOC deepened the well in 1973,
then starting at 1976 INOC started an appraisal-development programme, and
produced about 2 MMSTB of 32 °API oil from
the field. In 1994 the Iraqi Ministry of Oil published a plan to increase the
production capacity of Hamrin to 80,000 BOPD among other fields, and (pending
the lift of the current embargo) invited international oil companies to apply
for production shearing contracts. This 35 pages report is a study of the reservoir
geology and reserves of this giant field.
